Yes, I’m not making this up. There is even a Research Facility in Shasta County, named SETI, short for Search for Extraterrestrial Life. It is called the Hat Creek Observatory, and you will pass it every time you drive down beautiful Highway 89 between Mount Shasta and Mount Lassen.
